The rest of the world has to tune in by camera. The women's surfing world is just as booming, with their own special competitions. Find the Quicksilver Big Wave Invitational and see some of the best female surfers around today. This particular tournament is not held each year since the requirements include at least 20-foot waves. The conditions have to be perfect, so you would have to literally be in the right place at the right time to witness the majesty and aptitude of these competitors.

Safety Tips for The Beach

• Make sure there are on-duty lifeguards when swimming in the ocean, especially with dangerous surf.
• Never go into the ocean when alone on the beach.
• Make sure you have the proper swimming abilities, do not rely on a flotation device when heading into deep waters.
• Pay attention to the conditions. If waves start to grow you should be wary, never forget to watch the signals of nature.
• Read all beach safety signs and warnings, they are meant to protect you.
• The winter months are known for more dangerous surf, so choose an appropriate season for your amateur surfing strip or if you plan to swim often.
• Listen to surf reports on the radio and television, there are often advance warnings of rough conditions. Also, the local beachgoers will have an inside scoop, so don't hesitate to ask questions and take expert advice.
• Do not touch unknown marine life, there are often poisonous life forms that look perfectly harmless just sitting on the beach. The aptly names "Stinging Limu" is a type of seaweed that is found on beaches in the summer months and can harm humans when touched.
